For three quarters of a century Blanton has heard old-time mountaineers tell of the trials and tribulations many of their ancestors encountered when they left established Piedmont farms to cross over the rugged North Carolina mountains into a wilderness which challenged the imagination of the hardiest of souls. With dreams in their hearts and springs under their feet they were determined to pay the mental and physical price, whatever it would become. A few colorful personalities rose up to provide entertainment in the form of storytelling, the only performing art most of them would ever know.
In his first book, Tales from the Porch, currently in its third printing, Blanton successfully captured the art of storytelling in the vernacular of the era. And Fireside Tales, his second book, also very popular, expands the art of imaginative tall storytelling even further.
My Mountains, My Home expounds on hardship, fear, employment, love, romance, marriage, homebuilding, hatred, crime and war - even murder; the realities of life in the mountains. Once into the book readers will not want to put it down - not yet anyhow.
